Kohatu - Memorial Stone
This memorial stone on the walkway to the Aratiatia Rapids says: "This Kohatu is dedicated to the people of Ngati Tahu-Ngati Whaoa. Near the Aratiatia Rapids was the settlement of 'Atahaka', one of many Maori settlements. Atahaka had cultivations, cherry trees, burial sites and a river crossing site nearby."
The symbol is said to represent a young fern unfurling.
