The glass pyramid in Gulpen was built as a visitors centre for which 8 local municipalities dug deep into their pockets. Although at least 150,000 visitors per year were expected, it turned out that in the first half year only 10% of them found their way to Gulpen. This led to bankruptcy. A striking detail: in order to build the pyramid, a barn was purchased that had to make way for it. The owner of that barn bought the pyramid after the bankruptcy.
