    History
Owners in the 17th and 18th centuries were happy to make a grand gesture along the length of their estate. The park garden was laid out in the strict Dutch Baroque style, derived from the French Style. Characteristic are the geometric shapes.
At the end of the 18th and early 19th centuries, the park was transformed into the English landscape style. This can be seen in the water features, streams, winding paths, hills, tree features and solitary trees. The red beeches mark important elements and transitions in the park.
The park was radically restored between 1976 and 1981. Landscape architect Michael van Gessel has merged the essences of the French and the English style.

    Kitchen garden
The vegetable garden is a wonderful resting point on the estate. The garden consists of a flower garden, orchard, herb garden and vegetable garden. A beech hedge surrounds the vegetable garden, with a snake wall to the south.

    Ice cellar
The ice cellar dates from the 19th century. This cooled fruit, vegetables, meat and wine in the summer. Nowadays, the Grootoor bat lives in the basement.

In the ice cellar the ice from the water features was kept in blocks and that remained good for up to 2 years. The ice was used to keep meat and fish cool in the kitchen. The doctor was also allowed to use the ice cream. People with inflammation could get ice cream from the castle manager with a recipe. The ignition was cooled with this. The doctor himself used the ice for amputations that he had to perform. By cooling the stump, the wound was less bleeding.

The park is open all year round and is freely accessible. You may come across a wedding party. In the spring and summer you can sit outside on the terrace near the castle.

Wow, what a great park to visit!!! Perfect for the dogs to run out and have fun.
Groeneveld Castle is an estate in the municipality of Baarn. It is used as a "country estate for city and country" by Staatsbosbeheer. A long driveway from the Amsterdamsestraatweg forms the viewing avenue of the estate.
