Just a few dozen metres apart, there are three war memorials in Oeselgem.
This one, at the church in Oeselgem, commemorates the military and civilian victims and veterans of the First and Second World Wars.
The memorial plaque at the foot of the monument honours the Belgian soldiers of the 19th Line Regiment who died in the Battle of the Leie from 24 to 28 May 1940.
The (difficult to read) text on the monument: "19th Line Regiment / to its fallen and to all its brave men who fought here for the country's salvation in despair.".
