Chioma is a small tourist center (less than 100 residents) at the mouth of the stream of the same name, which forms the border between the municipalities of Livorno and Rosignano Marittimo.
It is frequented especially in the summer thanks to the tourist infrastructure it has (beach resort with bar and restaurant, tourist port with moorings and fuel station, sailing, surfing and kayaking schools) and its natural beauty: inside, the suggestive valley of the Chioma stream is immersed in a green environment with woods and meadows interspersed with some farms and a few other human settlements, today less frequent than in the past (as demonstrated by the ruins of farmhouses scattered here and there) and is a destination for hikers and mountain bikers, while the coast offers a crystalline sea with a color that changes from green to blue and beaches characterized by rocks and gravel mixed with pebbles.
Chioma is connected via the "old Aurelia" (formerly SS 1) to Quercianella and the capital Livorno, in a northerly direction and to Castiglioncello, Rosignano, Cecina... via both the old and the new Aurelia (SS 1) in a southerly direction.
Right at the height of the Chioma bridge, via del Vaiolo branches off [komoot.com/it-it/highlight/917856], a pleasant, shaded and little-trafficked hill road that climbs up to Nibbiaia, then connecting to the ridge road to Rosignano Marittimo. For the frequent cyclists who travel it, it is an interesting and pleasant alternative (even if at times challenging) to the busy coastal road
