The history of the Niederwald in our region is as old as its settlement history.

If one ignores the insignificant traces of Stone Age human activities or wandering, non-sedentary hunters, the first significant settlement began around 500 BC. Celtic settlers moved into our area from the south, apparently in search of the new metal, iron or iron ore.
