The Protestant church was one of the last buildings of the "emergency church program" that was launched after World War II. Like so many other of these emergency churches, St. John's Church, which was inaugurated in 1954, was designed by Otto Bartning. The church was deconsecrated in 2020, but since it is a listed building, many of the fittings were retained when it was converted into a daycare center. The nave was carefully extended by the Düsseldorf architectural firm Zweipink. Unfortunately, the square in front of the church is still undesigned and somewhat desolate, as the daycare center is accessed from the side on the upper level. It is definitely worth taking a walk around the church to actually notice the additions.
