The Monument to the Austrian Grenadier is dedicated to the soldiers of the Habsburg army who fought in this area during the Napoleonic wars that led the Canale Valley to become part of the French Empire from 1809 to 1813.

The statue is located in front of the Rutte hill, where the first battle in Tarvisio between the Austrians and the French took place in March 1797.

This monument reminds us of a very important historical period for Tarvisio and its region.
