The Schönwalde lock connects the Lower Havel waterway with the Upper Havel waterway. This makes it possible to bypass the Berlin urban area. The lock was put into operation on June 18, 1952. Due to the shortage of materials during the construction period, a special construction method was chosen: the soles of the lock heads are at the same height, so that the jumble waste takes place in front of the upper gate. This design means that the top and bottom of the lock are identical and it was possible to keep only one pair of gate leaves as a replacement. Towing was still common at the time of construction. To make this easier, an electric capstan was built on the north side of the lock head.havelland-tourismus.de/havel/schleusen/schleusen/dienstleistungen/schleuse-schoenwalde-havelkanal

It is very idyllic in the landscape and not far from it you can sit under a shelter and take his break.
