Dachau is next to the castle, from which you can enjoy a wonderful distant view towards Munich, also known for its past as an important artist colony. In the late 19th century, every tenth inhabitant of Dachau was a painter, including women, which was revolutionary at the time. In the Dachau picture gallery you can see the most important works of the painters of the time. In the Neue Galerie, on the other hand, you will find contemporary art.
