The Fühlinger See is a true rowing paradise. International competitions take place here.
In the middle of summer, the largest reggae festival takes place here. Tents everywhere, people singing and stoned. Of course also drunk or just tipsy people.

    The Fühlinger See

    50739 Cologne (North Rhine-Westphalia) de

The local recreation area Fühlinger See is located in the north of Cologne between the eponymous district of Fühlingen and the parts of Seeberg and Chorweiler. It was created after 1967 through the recultivation of several gravel pits that supplied building material for the construction of the Chorweiler district.

The area consists of a multitude of interconnected lakes. These have no above-ground tributaries and are only fed by the groundwater. Due to this fact and the fact that the area is only two kilometers away from the Rhine, the water level can fluctuate by up to two meters. The often heavy use of the local recreation area by those looking for relaxation in the summer months is problematic for the water quality. The Fühlinger See can be easily reached via the nearby A1.

From 1912 gravel was dredged in the Fühlinger Heide, which was used for the construction of the Cologne-Aachen and Cologne-Krefeld railway lines as well as for cement requirements in Cologne. The pits quickly filled with groundwater due to the nearby Rhine and the old subterranean arm of the Rhine. Bathers came to the north of Cologne as early as the 1930s, when the excavator was still in operation.

The local recreation area Fühlinger See was created from 1967 through the recultivation and unification of the old gravel pits in the course of the construction of the satellite town of Chorweiler. For these, the lake was to serve as a recreation area and a separation lane from the industrial and commercial area planned to the east. It was also desired to use it as a regatta course for training and competition operations for the Cologne rowing clubs. The Fühlinger See consists of a large number of interconnected lakes. A total of seven lakes border a centrally located regatta course. The individual lakes are intended for different uses: a lake for outdoor swimming and scuba diving, a fishing lake, a surfing lake and three swimming and boating lakes and a rowing and canoeing lake for berthing and casting off with a passage to the regatta course. The depth of the lake averages 10 m, in some places it reaches almost 20 m.

Cologne's largest bathing lake with 5000 square meters of supervised area.

Barbecue: There are several barbecue stations around the lake in the north of Cologne, all of which are equipped with tables and seating. Some of the places are covered, public toilets are in the parking lot at Neusser Landstrasse / Merianstrasse. However, if you want to use the spaces, you have to register with the Sports Office of the City of Cologne beforehand. But the lake offers even more: surfing, swimming and rafting is allowed almost everywhere, and the rowing regatta route and designated jogging routes encourage you to go on a sporty day trip with kids.

The Summerjam Festival stands for the best of reggae, dancehall and hip hop.
As the largest event of its kind, it combines the heartbeat of the scene with a diverse musical culture. The location on an island in the Fühlinger See and an audience of different generations from all over the world create a unique atmosphere.

Nice swimming area, at Blackfoot Beach (paid beach) you can rent boats and stand up paddling, you can just lie around the lake and swim in the lake.

The route is nice to drive, but should be avoided on weekends when the weather is nice. then bicyclists and bathers alike frolic there and you have to push the bike, otherwise there is no way of getting there.

The Fühlinger See to the north of Cologne is often used as a regatta course. Some smaller lakes are separated and more beautiful to look at. One of the lakes is a swimming lake.
