The lake was created in the 1960s and 1970s as a result of building rubble being deposited in the Kehlgraben. Due to these deposits, the water from the "Weberbuckel" could no longer run off and so the lake was formed. Water samples showed good results and so the fishing use offered itself.
In 1981, 13 fishing enthusiasts met and founded the Kalchreuth fishing club. Rubbish, junk from the former rubble dumps and also trees had to be removed from the water before fishing could begin.
