HistoryGarnholt was first mentioned in 1292 in the chronicle of the Rastede monastery. There, three farmsteads are mentioned that are subject to tithes to the monastery. In 1428, four farmsteads are mentioned in the inventory book of the Drost Jacob von der Specken in Garnholt, as well as in the Oldenburg Contribution Register of 1679. There were no farmsteads or tenant farms. It was not until the 19th century that Garnholt was more intensively populated. From 1815 onwards, the first houses in Garnholterfeld are mentioned. The 1816 census showed 12 houses in Garnholt, in 1997 there were 69.In 1874, the brickworks owner August Lauw acquired one of the four farmsteads, had it demolished at its original location and rebuilt in the middle of his Garnholt lands as the Groß Garnholt estate.
