La Place de la République

The Place de la République was intended during its Reconstruction in the 1920s to accommodate the business district. Most of the buildings on this square combine Regionalism and Art Deco; for example, the Crédit Agricole building, built in 1934 by Marc Delattre, is decorated with bas-reliefs by Victor Dautel evoking field work in the Art Deco style.

The façade of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry is also regionalist due to the use of brick and the presence of the central gable reminiscent of Flemish gables; and Art Deco with its curved bow window, its ironwork and its bas-reliefs cast in concrete representing the city's coat of arms and the figures of Commerce, Abundance and Fortune, works by Marcel Gaumont.
