Immediately behind the mighty entrance gate to the Wülzburg Fortress is the memorial to the eviction, inaugurated on February 15, 1997, as a central memorial in the district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen, the keystones of which bear the following text:
FROM FEBRUARY 1946, MORE THAN 10,000 CHILDREN, WOMEN, AND MEN WERE REFUGEED AS HOME-DISPLACED - REFUGEE CAMP WÜLZBURG
Strong iron plates - as a symbol of brute force - displace the ancestral population from their homeland, represented by Jurassic stone plates with the names of the affected areas:
BANATE, TRANSBURY, POMERANIA, EAST PRUSSIA, WEST PRUSSIA, SILESIA, SUDETENLAND

The Wülzburg is a historic fortress that was built between 1588 and around 1610. It is located above the large district town of Weißenburg in Bavaria (Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district) on the Wülzburger Berg, an elevation of the part of the Southern Franconian Alb called the Weißenburger Alb.

A really great view is the wonderful Altmühlfranken, with the venerable imperial city of Weißenburg at its feet.
