The Hauptstadtbach in Augsburg is a major canal that branches off from the Lech at the Hochablass and supplies the city area with water. With a flow rate of up to 45 cubic meters of water per second, it is the most water-rich canal in the Augsburg canal system. 
The Hauptstadtbach runs through the Spickel district and splits into the Herrenbach and the Kaufbach at Friedberger Strasse. 
Although the Hauptstadtbach is often referred to as the “ice canal,” this is not correct. The ice canal is a separate artificial whitewater course used for canoe slalom competitions.
