Hiking

From this time until 1599, Stiege was the official residence and property of the Counts of Blankenburg-Reinstein. The original hunting lodge was rebuilt, fortified and expanded and elevated to the count's residence. The castle once had four corner towers, of which only the south-western one remains today. On the mountain side there was a deep moat over which a 40m high drawbridge led. The drawbridge tower has now been demolished and the moat filled in.
