Apart from the Hinterlandswaldstraße, there are no paved paths in the entire Hinterlandswald. Thus, this forest area is one of the largest ecological retreats for wildlife in Hesse that is not cut up by such paths. The hinterland forest is largely part of the FFH area proposal Wispertaunus.
