The Faro del Gianicolo is located on the Janiculum Hill, one of the highest points in Rome, offering stunning views of the city. The lighthouse was donated in 1911 by the Italian community in Argentina to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Italian unification. It was designed by the Italian architect Manfredo Manfredi.

The Gianicolo Lighthouse was built by the architect Manfredo Manfredi, author of the tomb in the Pantheon for Vittorio Emanuele II and collaborator in the construction of the Altare della Patria. Initially the lantern of the Janiculum lighthouse was in operation every night illuminating the roofs of the city with the tricolor beam, now it is turned on on some occasions as national celebrations.
