The portal originally came from Ettenheimmünster Abbey in the Ortenau region, a Benedictine monastery that was expanded in the Baroque style in the early 18th century.

Path of the Baroque portal: comes from the former monastery building in Ettenheim Münster. In 1803 the portal came to Lahr, where it was used in a villa on Sonnenplatz. This villa was destroyed in World War II. In 1971 the portal was moved to the south side of the town hall and restored at the same time.
