    For the first half of the 19th Century lead mining in the Glendalough area was confined to the Glendasan Valley. It commenced around 1800. Up until 1960 Wicklow was the foremost mining county in Ireland with records supporting commercial mining in the area over the last 200 years in the valleys of Glendalough

      The Wicklow Gap is one of the highest passes in Ireland. At this point there is even a road over the pass. The St Kevins Way pilgrimage route also takes walkers from Glendalough over the pass.
