THE NAKED CHILD FIGURE ON THE TORTOISE.

A putto was discovered in the bushes in the Tönning castle garden after 3 centuries.

The naked clay child figure sitting on a turtle is probably a 300-year-old majolica, a ceramic with an opaque colored glaze.

This material first reached Europe in the 15th/16th century with the Arabs via Mallorca - hence the name 'majolica'.
