To have a gardener memorialised, you have to create something special. Sebastian Rinz (1782–1861) succeeded in doing this: In 1806, the Aschaffenburg palace gardener was commissioned by Jakob Guiollett to design the Frankfurt ramparts, the park that was created in place of the demolished city walls. His work was very popular with the population and earned him the title of "Frankfurt city gardener for life" as early as 1808. His depiction on the monument reflects this: the nature lover has settled in an idyllic place surrounded by large trees and is lovingly looking at the rose in his right hand. The Rinz monument, designed by Heinrich Petry, was erected in 1892, initially in the Gallusanlage. With the construction of the Schauspielhaus ten years later, it was moved to its current location in the Friedberger Anlage. During the Second World War, the bronze figure was saved from being melted down, so that the work could be put up again in 1949.
