The castle was built in the years 1869-1870 as a mansion of Count Brockdorff of Ahlefeldt. The current tenant is the club "Sebulon Offensive North e.V." based in Ascheberg. The house serves as a youth recreation and leisure center and is equipped accordingly.
The castle is located directly in the nature reserve on a peninsula, which protrudes into the Great Plöner See. The own swimming area, large meadow areas, the campfire and barbecue area, the open-air Mühlespiel, streetball, volleyball and badminton field characterize u.a. the site.
