The large Linnich Rur weir was built in 1875/76 according to plans by the brilliant hydraulic engineer Professor Otto Ludwig Intze (1843 - 1904). Its purpose was to dam up the Rur water just before the branch of the Linnich mill pond so that there was enough water available to drive the mills in Linnich and Brachelen even on dry summer days. Today the weir is a striking monument to local and regional economic and technical history.
