The Krabat is probably the most famous legendary figure of the Sorbs. Here in the Black Mill or Devil's Mill the old magician is said to have learned the magic craft from the miller. He used his magical powers to do good deeds for the poor farmers and to kid rich wealthy cattle farmers.

In the KRABAT mill you will find a whole world of experience around the figure of Krabat. You can take themed tours and events and learn more about customs and crafts. Various scenes from the Krabatsage are shown on the adventure trail. The KRABAT Festival has also been taking place here since 2012.

Twelve boys become ravens on Friday evening and learn to do magic. The miller is in league with the devil. Once a year, on Sylvester, he has to hand over one of the assistants to Gevatter Tod. The mill only runs if he can use twelve assistants. Krabat, the youngest in the group, falls in love and wants to quit the Devil's Pact.

The legendary figure Krabat is known from the books by Otfried Preußler and Jurij Brězan and not least from the numerous film adaptations far beyond Germany. Especially after the fall of the Wall, many visitors from the old federal states came to Schwarzkollm to follow Krabat's footsteps to discover the legendary "Black Mill". At that time there was only one old barn in Koselbruch, which gave no indication of Krabat's history. Inspired by the guests and thanks to the traveling companions, the unique building history of the Black Mills that once went up in flames began in June 2006 in the Koselbruch area of Schwarzkollm.

The association "Krabatmühle-Schwarzkollm e.V." was founded on March 8, 2005 with the aim of making the "Black Mill" a unique cultural offer in Lusatia. Oriented to the historical location, a world of experience revolving around the figure “Krabat”, the “Sorbian Faust” and the good magician has been a reality in Koselbruch.

In the summer of 2006, over 100 free traveling journeyman journeymen ensured the construction work in Koselbruch. The Schwarzkollmer provided board and lodging.

In 2008 the servants' house and the arcade were built. In 2009 a listed barn from Dubring was converted into the "Black Mill" and the construction of the mill tower (mill technology, water wheel) began. By converting a listed barn from Sollschwitz, it was able to be preserved as a "mill barn". The construction of the toilet facility and a parking lot form the cornerstone for smooth basic care of the guests.

The premiere of the movie "Krabat" in 2008 brought a lot of attention to Schwarzkollm and the entire KRABAT region and also inspired all actors in Koselbruch.

While it was the construction activity in 2006 that initially attracted around 2,000 visitors to Schwarzkollm, in the meantime guests can expect a lot of activities. In 2012 more than 33,000 guests from all over Germany as well as from Japan, Switzerland, England and the Slavic countries visited us.
