1865 was a special year for the people of Nauen: the city's first gasworks opened at Graf-Arco-Straße 1. From here, progress came to Nauen in the form of illuminating gas, which illuminated street lamps, businesses and private households. The commissioning was - along with the rail connection - the reason why the city developed from an agricultural to an industrial city.

When Nauen was connected to the long-distance gas pipeline from Falkensee in 1950, the gasworks was retired. In the same year, the German Seed Company opened a seed warehouse with drying and filling facilities in the halls of the former gasworks.

With the political change, the end of the seed warehouse was foreseeable. The facility closed its doors for good in the early 1990s. Individual buildings were used as warehouses in the years that followed. Since then, the industrial complex has been falling into disrepair.
