In 1914, the high school became a sorting center and a hospital for the English wounded arriving from Le Cateau. From August 28, the German troops who invested the city kept the military hospital installed there. On March 21, 1918, the 50th German division which attacked Savy and Francilly-Sellency, set up its campaign HQ there.
