During World War II, various bunkers were positioned near the coast in Denmark to monitor events at sea. Unlike in Hirtshals (bunker museum) and Løkken, for example, the number of bunkers in Lønstrup was comparatively small. The few buildings here could be built in exposed locations because of the steep coast.
Erosion means that the bunkers, which are mostly underground, are now often visible even deeper on the beach. The bunker on the left, located behind the sea entrance on the left of Harerenden-Købmant, has now largely sunk into the sea and has become part of the coastal protection groynes.
Before the turn of the millennium, this bunker was located in the middle of the beach and was used as a place to lie down, provide shade or hold a towel. At that time, the beach was usable and easy to walk from this point to the Lønstrup harbor, as evidenced by the steel stairs in the groynes that allow access to the 'beach' in front of the bunker when it is not flooded due to the weather.
You should wear shoes when visiting, as the sand is now covered with gravel, something that anglers who can still use the bunker as a location above the sea know well.
