It took a while for the people of Karlsruhe to get used to replacing the road with tracks with grass. But the result is worth it!The slaughterhouse was opened in 1897 and was in operation until 2006. Today "Creative Park". In 2007, the slaughterhouse restaurant was opened and the cultural center Tollhaus expanded. Since 2010, the Schweinmarkthalle has been used for events.

Today, the entire slaughterhouse area is managed by a cooperation of various city development, cultural and economic development institutions of the city. Many of the 19th-century industrial and commercial buildings are listed and will continue to testify to the former use of the area. Newly built buildings should consciously stand out from the architecture of the old buildings.
