Holzkastenbrücke Buchfart

The landmarked covered house bridge from 1816 crosses the Ilm in Buchfart over a length of 43 meters and offers a track width of 3.20 meters. On both sides are narrow walkways for pedestrians. Through the sunken windows you have a beautiful view of the Ilm and a watermill.

A special attraction of the place is the 1816-1818 built, covered wooden bridge over the Ilm. (Until 1613, the bridge was made of stone.) The listed bridge has a length of 43 meters, a width of three meters and the headroom is 3, 05 meters. The bridge is still passable. Been there years ago, so a second visit is needed. Very beautiful old wooden bridge and definitely a must to visit on the Ilmtal cycle path. 😁 The mill shop next door invites you to rest and eat. Definitely worth a visit.

Ilm bike path is mandatory

The bridge and the mill can best be seen or admired, if you turn from Ilmenau behind the bridge to the right.
