The crosses have been embedded in a whitewashed wall so they stand out even more and are there to remember an event that occurred in 1849.
We are in the midst of the anti-Bourbon riots when some political prisoners are taken from the prison installed in Palazzo d'Avalos and are massacred. The crosses are there precisely to remember their death.
