In October 1993, the building was consecrated by Dr. Notker Wolf, then Archabbot of St. Ottilien, and dedicated to Saint Benedict of Nursia as the patron saint of Europe and to the two Slavic apostles Cyril and his brother Methodius, who were also patron saints of Europe. In 2017, the chapel building association expanded the list to include the patron saints Catherine of Siena, Birgitta of Sweden and Teresa Benedicta of the Cross - known by her secular name Edith Stein and canonized in 1999. Notker Wolf died on April 2, 2024 at the age of 83.
