The world-famous Benedictine monastery is one of the few that still brews its own beer independently of the group. This can be directly tasted on the inviting beer terrace next door. Bottom up!

Go up the monastery tower, with a great view of the Bavarian Prealps and the Ammersee.

The hike to Andechs is good practice and is rewarded with good, inexpensive Bavarian Gastro. However, a look into the baroque church of the monastery is also included.
Recommendation: the monastery is especially magnificent when approaching from the east, from Starnberg.

A special place, depending on the season more or less visited. A must, if you are at Ammersee.

A very nice monastery, pilgrims can stay here and enjoy a home-brewed beer from the beer vending machine and a beautiful view.

    A very popular hiking destination.
Usually on foot from the station Herrsching to Andechs.
Also, e.g. by bike from Munich.

The church of Andechs is extremely nicely decorated with great church paintings. Food and beer is good. Better to sit in the beer garden if possible, the economy is very loud with many visitors.

We just wanted to go a bit. So we drove to Frieding. From there we went on foot through the forest to Andechs. There was a snack, as breakfast was canceled. Afterwards we went back to Frieding and drive home.

Unfortunately I forgot to turn off the tour in Frieding. So we drove a piece with the car.

It's a light afternoon walk to air out.

Bring time and admire. Some things are a little bit twisty, sometimes "wandering around". I was very impressed.

A very nice and popular excursion destination, the way from Herrsching S-Bahn station runs beautifully through the shady forest. At the monastery, it is advisable to climb the tower in good weather, as soon as you have overcome the steps you will be rewarded with a fabulous view in every direction.

Great hike up there. The monastery is definitely worth a visit. Both the grounds as the church and the entertainment.

The Andechs Monastery, visible from afar on the Holy Mountain above the east bank of the Ammersee, is the oldest place of pilgrimage in Bavaria and has been an economic asset of the Benedictine Abbey of Sankt Bonifaz in Munich since 1850.

The Benedictines have been taking care of the pilgrimage since 1455. They live according to the rule of Saint Benedict, which is often referred to as "ora et labora - pray and work". On the Holy Mountain, the monastic community is involved in the pastoral care for pilgrims, in the pastoral care of the surrounding communities, and in the management of businesses.

If you are looking for pleasure for body and soul, a trip to the "Holy Mountain" is recommended. The Andechs Monastery complex is enthroned there on the east bank of Lake Ammer, in the middle of the Starnberg Five Lake District. With an affiliated brewery, brewery tavern, monastery inn and an extensive cultural program, the monastery is now a magnet for visitors from all over the world.

Andechs is probably the most popular day trip destination in Munich. Every weekend, weather permitting, thousands of people from Munich leave the city for Andechs. Andechs Monastery is one of the most important tourist destinations in Bavaria. Most come, however, for the famous Andechs beer, the world-famous monastery restaurants, including a huge beer garden.

Andechs Monastery has been a place of pilgrimage since the 15th century, making it the oldest in Bavaria. The monastery itself has existed since around 1390. The Rococo-style monastery church is well worth seeing. In 2005 the Andechs Monastery was extensively renovated. The church got a new organ. There are daily guided tours of the pilgrimage church in Andechs Monastery during the week. In addition, you can book a tour every day in summer through the herb garden and every day through the Andechs monastery distillery (including tasting). The tour of the famous monastery brewery is also very interesting (unfortunately only on Mondays and Tuesdays). On nice days you have a magnificent view of the Alps from the Kloser.

The "State Pilgrimage Church of St. Nikolaus and Elisabeth" in Andechs, that is the former Andechs Abbey Church, is located in Bavaria in the Starnberg district, in Upper Bavaria. In addition to Altötting, it is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Bavaria. Since secularization in 1803, it no longer belongs to the Andechs Monastery, but to the Free State of Bavaria. The pilgrimage church is located above the village of Herrsching am Ammersee.

Even if it sometimes happens like on Stachus, the Klosterberg and the associated drinks and culinary diversity is a real must.

If you are in the five-lake country, you should make a detour to the monastery after Andechs in any case. Especially recommended is the hike from Herrsching through Kiental (komoot.de/highlight/286991). If you have made the climb then, you can reward yourself with a delicious beer in Bräustüberl (komoot.de/highlight/467441).
