It was Michel Valkener, receiver at the Collegiate Church of St-Pierre in Liège, who bought a property of several hectares on the entity of the "Petite Flémal'", former name of Flémalle-Haute. He built his pleasure residence there around 1614. Between 1710 and 1738, the castle expanded. A second wing built on the model of the first was integrated into the building at the request of Marie-Françoise de Bonhomme, then owner of the premises. The castle became a pleasant pleasure residence served by a farmyard and decorated with gardens. Since 1938, the castle has housed municipal services. A recently built wing extends it towards the park. The latter has undergone some changes due to the needs and fashions of the times. From being utilitarian (orchard, vegetable garden), it gradually transformed into a public garden. Once you have crossed the porch, you first find yourself in an "Italian" garden with a succession of brightly colored flowerbeds. A "French" garden follows, punctuated by a mosaic roundabout. There remains the vast area at the back of the park, with a landscape design called "English" with the water and rocks arranged to imitate the whims of nature as the center of interest.
In all seasons, the park is the ideal setting for strolling and recharging your batteries. Many newlyweds have their photos taken there.
Free and open access all year round for the park.
