This tower is part of the medieval Moorish castle defence complex and is located just outside the castle's outer keep.

The tower dates back to the Islamic Nasrid period but has been partially reconstructed at least three times, most recently being restored by the Gibraltar National Museum in 2019. Two information panels have also been erected in Casemates Square, showcasing one of the oldest parts of Gibraltar city.
