    The idea for its creation appeared on the 150th anniversary of the death of General Józef Wybicki. In 1972, a competition for the design of the monument was announced. The best concept, according to the then authorities, was presented by the Gdańsk sculptor Wawrzyniec Samp. The over 8-meter tall object was created in the foundry department of the Lubiana Porcelain Tableware Plant. The ceremonial unveiling took place on July 20, 1975.
