It is also called the Gaddafi Mosque because the former Libyan leader financed its construction.

The national mosque sits on the most central of the 7 original hills of Kampala. From the minaret you can see the other 6 hills and the roads leading from them to this central point. The first brick house in Kampala, built by the British, is also preserved within the mosque complex. The mosque is very beautiful and peaceful.
