Cézanne's last home, we see above the glass roof of his studio facing north, to capture indirect light. The artist moved there in 1899 after the sale of Jas de Bouffant.
He died there of pleurisy in October 1906.

After his mother's death in 1897 and the sale in 1899 of his family's Jas de Bouffan country house, Paul Cézanne (born in Aix-en-Provence in 1839) moved into this house at 23 rue Boulegon in Aix-en-Provence in 1900, at the age of 61, where he had his artist's studio set up, lit by a vast glass roof, under the roof of the top floor. His wife Hortense and their son Paul Cézanne junior came to spend their long winter months there from Paris. After having tried unsuccessfully to acquire the Château Noir du Tholonet, on the Cézanne road, he then bought in 1901 a vast plot of land of 7,000 m2 on the Lauves hill north of Aix, to build his studio, from where he regularly went on foot along the current Cézanne road, to some of his favorite places of painting inspiration to paint his important work [before disappearing in this house in 1906[
