As the main axis of the city, the Cours Mirabeau is bordered by the two fountains Fontaine du Roi René in the east and the Fontaine de La Rotonde in the west. The Rotonde fountain was built in 1860 and is crowned by three statues depicting justice (looking along the Cours Mirabreau), agriculture (looking towards Marseille) and the fine arts (directed towards Avignon).
