Today, the Donkey Trail is a pleasant hiking trail. The story behind it is that farmers wanted to avoid paying customs duties. Several mills in the valley are powered by the Mußbach stream. A toll station was built. The farmers would walk their laden donkeys across the Knoppenweth and thus avoid paying customs duties.
