On the market square of Hoyerswerda there is a fountain with a couple in Sorbian peasant clothes on the water-dispensing column. It is called the Sorb Well. Hoyerswerda has a particularly close relationship with Sorbian history and culture.
In 1912 the Domowina, the umbrella association of Sorbian associations and organizations, was founded here.
The Sorb Fountain is a reminder that the Sorbs have shaped Upper and Lower Lusatia for many centuries. In the seventh, eighth and ninth centuries, they were the only inhabitants of this area.
The fountain is the work of the sculptor Jürgen von Woyski, who lived in Hoyerswerda for 45 years and participated in the artistic design of the Neustadt.
The Sorb Fountain initially stood in the courtyard of the Ortenburg Castle in Bautzen before it was given its current location in 1994.Source: hoyerswerda.de/stadtleben/stadtportrait/sorben-serbja/sorben-hy/der-sorbenbrunnen-in-hoyerswerda
