Valtaki/Balthas Fortress Towers in Trinidas 🏰 Selinitsa

Fortress complex on a hillside, next to the road, 4km northeast of Gythio between Selinitsa and Valtaki.
It passes relatively unnoticed in an area full of towers and fortified complexes, but it has a peculiarity: it did not belong to a Mani family, but it was an Ottoman military fortress.
It was built by the Turks in the 18th century and probably after the Orlofic period, that is to say after 1780. Its purpose was to control the sea area between Trinisa and Gythio, but also to protect the border with the region of the essentially independent (and often uncontrolled) Manis.
The fortress was almost square with an area of ​​2.5 acres and a fortification perimeter of 200 meters. Two cylindrical towers are rescued at opposite diametral points of the enclosure and a central rectangular tower is 5 m long in the middle of the northern wall.
