When the first roundabout in Kelkheim was built at the main cemetery in 2010, there wasn't enough money left for a work of art. A large garden gnome served as a placeholder. Apparently, many people didn't understand that it was meant to be funny, and Fred, the garden gnome, was vandalized several times. The story even made television.
So how surprised the residents of Kelkheim were when, one morning, a large female figure with raised arms and outstretched wings appeared on the traffic island!
