The Heck cattle, often incorrectly referred to as the "aurochs" or as a "back-breeding" of the same, is a breed of domestic cattle that emerged in the 1920s. It is named after the brothers Heinz and Lutz Heck, who attempted to breed replicas from various domestic cattle breeds. Heck cattle are often used in zoos, farms and grazing projects. The largest population lives in today's Oostvaardersplassen under almost wild conditions. It is one of several aurochs-like cattle.
