The village of Smrje along the river Reka stands Novak's homestead with a mill, which was once typical for the valley of the river.

Novak's farm is an ethnological specialty of the municipality of Ilirska Bistrica, since it represents the tradition of milling in this area. It consists of a homestead and a specially built mill that gets water from the river from the river. The river Jezera is designed so that it can supply the mill with water even at low water level, while water is passing by a mill at high water level. Today the owner renews the farm, has rebuilt and renovated the grain mill. There is a black kitchen and a baking oven in the house.

The house near the mill was built in 1856, and the mill stood there earlier, as is proved by the Austrian military map of 1763.

Novak's homestead offers you:

- the space is suitable for a picnic area, for a large number of people (up to 200 people),

- weddings in the open air in nature,

- picnics for families with small children, where there is plenty of room for play,

- the possibility of playing football, bowling, volleyball, and various other games that play on a large gaming area, ...

- possibility to see black kitchen, mill, ...

- with a serious company there is a possibility of celebrating in the interior of Novak's house. For these occasions we have a landscaped room that accommodates about 50 people,

- it is also possible to observe nature and some rare marsh birds (herons),

- from NOVAK more routes, so it is possible to go for a longer walk along the watercourse of the river Reka,

- we also have an arranged picnic area, where in the case of rain people can find themselves under the roof (or the roof cover). It can also be baked here, because this facility is also designed,

- for larger groups we organize a tour of the ethnological collection.
