Legend has it that once upon a time, a terrible dragon lived in Postojna Cave, which everyone was afraid of. The locals called for help from the enterprising shepherd boy Jakob, who tamed the dragon by bringing him a calfskin filled with lime as a meal.

When the monster took a sip of water after lunch, it exploded. To thank Jakob for his courage, the locals erected a statue at the entrance to the village and sewed a bag from the remains of the dragon's skin, and since then the people of Postojna are (we are) known as "purse-takers".
