Fortunately, the nuclear power plant never went into operation!
But it is definitely a sight on the Danube Cycle Path and a variant of the Garden Tour. Right next to it is the Bärndörfer hut, imported from Bergen. That gives you at least a bit of a MTB feeling next to the oh-so-steep Danube :-)

The Zwentendorf nuclear power plant in Lower Austria was completed in the 1970s, but after a referendum in 1978 it was never put into operation. Today the plant is used for various purposes. It serves as a training center for reactor safety, a research facility for renewable energies and a venue for film productions and music festivals. There is also a large photovoltaic system on site. The power plant can be visited as part of guided tours and thus remains an important place for education, research and culture.
