After the withdrawal of the German army from the Nordlohne training area, a popular local recreation area has developed in the "Lohner Sand". Hikers, joggers and cyclists find ideal conditions here on the 2.6 km long nature trail and on marked hiking and cycling paths to switch off and enjoy the beauty of nature. 16 themed stations with information about the flora and fauna in the Lohner Sand, 43 hectares of partly sandy open spaces with viewing points, open and covered picnic areas and beautiful coniferous and mixed forests offer plenty of variety for family outings in a charming landscape.
