This townscape has developed with the characteristics of both a temple town for Atago Shrine, which is widely worshipped as the "god of fire suppression," and a farming village. Townhouse-style houses with "Mushiko windows" and farmhouse-style houses with thatched roofs called "Kuzuya" stand side by side against the beautiful natural backdrop. At the Kyoto City Saga Torii Honmachi Hozonami Museum, located near the first torii gate of Atago Shrine, a replica of the townscape of this area in the early Showa period is on display, allowing visitors to learn about what life was like at the time.
